Skin Care In The City

Living in the city is exciting. But who would have thought that this way of life could have a negative impact on our skin? Every day our poor skin is subject to pollution, air conditioning, weather, and dirt. On top of all that, if you are a busy city chick or have late nights (whether due to working or partying) this could also be taking its toll on your delicate skin.

But before you start packing your bags and heading out to the countryside, please read our tips on how to take care of your skin as a city dweller. With this know-how, you can have glowing skin while living in the bright lights of the city.

Wash daily and exfoliate weekly – Being in hot and cramped conditions, like on public transport, can lead to a buildup of oil and grease on your face. This, in turn, leads to more dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Washing your face twice a day is an important step in order to reduce the accumulation of dirt that gathers on your face. Use a quality cleansing product for a thorough clean. You should also exfoliate once or twice weekly to help remove dead skin cells. You might want to look at microdermabrasion machine reviews for an effective way to smoothen the surface of your skin.

Wash your hands – It has been estimated that, on average, a person will touch their face around 16 times per hour. If use public transport and you are touching railings, seats, windows, etc. you will be transferring bacteria and dirt from these surfaces to your skin all the time. Try to remember to wash your hands whenever you arrive at work or home after traveling on public transport and avoid touching your face as much as possible.

Always take your makeup off at night – We are all guilty of skipping this part of our beauty routines when we are exhausted. But it’s really important that we try our best not to. Makeup left overnight will clog up the pores leading to blackheads and pimples. Leave makeup removal wipes on your bedside table for ease.

Moisturize – Air conditioning can dry out the skin leaving it tight and uncomfortable. Hydrate your skin daily with a good quality face moisturizer. You may wish to invest in two products; one for daytime and one for night. It’s a good idea to carry a moisturizer with you for those times when your skin is craving a bit more moisture.

Protect your skin from the sun – At all times of the year an SPF should be worn to protect your skin from sun damage and premature aging. Use a face moisturizer with an SPF in order to cut back costs and to prevent your makeup bag from over-flowing.

Drink plenty of water – Drinking water will help flush out toxins from the body and will leave your skin looking healthy and young. So take a bottle of water with you whenever you are out and about in the city and stay well hydrated.

Take care of your skin city chicks!
